A Simi Valley shooting leaves a 29-year-old California man dead after he was shot and killed by police. The man allegedly shot and killed his mother and then shot at other people in his neighborhood indiscriminately in Simi Valley, police said.
According to UPI.com on Aug. 25, Neighbors reported gunshots, bringing police to the gunman's Simi Valley home shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday. Neighbors reported that the gunshots were coming from outside of the house.
Neighbors report that the gunman was riding around on a tractor shooting randomly at anyone who happened to cross his path. He then fatally shot his mother. Luckily, no one else in the neighborhood was injured in the shooting.
Anthony Macieo, who lives three doors down from the scene of the shooting reports:
"I was working on this pickup truck here in the driveway and I heard five shots ring out. Some time during the shots, I did hear a woman scream and then silence."
Macieo said that the police arrived shortly after he heard the shots and the scream. He also said that about six SWAT officers came walking down the street with assault riffles calling out to folks to get inside and stay there. Macieo said he stood in his garage for "quite a while" before hearing a dozen to two dozen shots fired.
The suspect was shot and killed. Stephanie Shannon with the Simi Valley Police Department said:
"Those officers have to make quick decisions. They were saving people's lives in this neighborhood."
The name of the suspect or his mother have not been released at this time.
