Silicon Valley interreligious group plans book club

SiVIC, the Silicon Valley Interreligious Council, has announced a new opportunity for those interested in reading together with people of differing religious traditions. The Silicon Valley Interfaith Book Club, hosted at, will proved a venue for reading and discussing books focused on faith journeys taken by individuals of different religions and/or spiritual communities.

The first book that the group will center on is In Search of Grace: A Religious Outsider's Journey Across America's Landscape of Faith, by Kristin Hahn. It tells of Hahn's experiences as she explored different religious observances across America. Spending time with Muslims, Mormons, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jews, Christian Scientists, Amish, Scientologists, neo-pagans and many more, Hahn gained an appreciation not only for the richness of religious expression, but for the religious freedom in the United States offers that nurtures them.

The book club is moderated by two members of the SiVIC Board, who will work through the book one chapter per week and develop discussion questions for group members to consider and comment.

The group is open to any interested people. To join, simply go to the Club Page, and click the button "Join Group."

In 2012, SiVIC was part of the Silicon Valley Reads project that invited people across the valley to read The Muslim Next Door and The Butterfly Mosque, and to discuss it with neighbors, friends, and people of differing religious traditions. They are hoping to extend the connections that were made possible by having people of different traditions reflecting together on the same book.
