Ever wish you could go back in time to experience movies like your ancestors did? About 700 kids from King County got to experience The Immigrant, a Charlie Chaplin film, on the big, big screen accompanied by the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle today. Some were given tours of the theatre ahead of time and some dressed up at Mr. Chaplin himself. Whether or not high-tech generation walked away impressed or not, remains to be seen.

You too are invited to experience the silent film the way it was meant to be during the winter edition of the Trader Joe’s Silent Movie Mondays beginning tonight at 7:00 p.m. with the 1927 film, Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans starring Janet Gaynor and George O’Brien. This one was specially picked by the house organist, Jim Riggs, who will creating music on the spot while the film plays tonight.

Presented by STG (Seattle Theatre Group) the Adored and Restored series focuses on the importance of film preservation and the art of cinema by presenting some of the most influential films from the silent movie era. Each film is a "special pick" by one of STG's partners and includes a CineClub discussion led by a film professional. Highlights include Paramount movie history and its beginnings as a movie palace.

The remainder of the series includes:

  • January 27 - Pandora's Box (1929) - Picked by SIFF's Women in Cinema
  • February 3 - Peter Pan (1924) - Picked by NWFF's Children Film Festival
  • February 10 - The General (1926) - Picked by Projectionist Miles McRae

The Paramount Theatre is located at 911 Pine St., Seattle, WA 98101. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students/seniors and $8 for SIFF members.
