Originally from Australia, Jim Dailakis now lives in New York City. This comedian, actor, writer and voiceover artist has appeared in movies and commercials all around the world. He has worked with artists like Jerry Seinfeld, The Temptations and Aretha Franklin, and headlined major comedy festivals.
From being bullied, to martial artist, to comedian actor and a one-man show that deals with the subject of bullying called "Conversations with the Celebrities in My Head."
As a kid, unfortunately, I looked very much like a girl. I was extremely weak, had absolutely no confidence and being Greek, I was a natural and obvious target for bullies.
I would try and find a place to hide every lunchtime. I couldn't wait for the day to be over so I could go home where it was safe. These guys were incredibly cruel.
I was teased and taunted for about three years, maybe longer. When I went to high school, I was so afraid of letting it happen again, so I did everything in my power to make sure that I would never be a target for bullies again and if I was, they'd be sorry. That's when I discovered Bruce Lee.
I took up martial arts and developed enormous strength, confidence, flexibility and the discipline that I never knew could possibly exist within me. I became somewhat popular and had quite a bit of luck with the pretty girls. Those were the days! ;-).
Now, instead of being targeted for my weaknesses, I was attacked because of my strengths. Again, I became the target for bullies. I handled the situation with discipline and tact and without violence.
Eventually, all this angst, anger, bitterness and sorrow was used as fuel to inspire me to go far above the norm. I got to see the funny side of everything. Today, I'm a successful standup comedian actor/writer that travels around the world doing what he loves.
The idiots that bullied me were the inspiration for my successes and now my one-man show that I hope will influence and inspire others who went through the same crap.
