It was not a surprise to anyone who watched the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet or the awards show on Jan. 27 that actress Sigourney Weaver would make the worst dressed list. The wore a long, black Lanvin dress to the event, according to a Jan. 31 Daily Mail report.
But it’s not the dress that is the problem. It’s Weaver’s mistake. The 63-year old actress wore the dress backward. Designer Alber Elbaz must have cringed just looking at the shapeless dress floating down down the red carpet.
Fashionistas around the globe took to their websites to express their opinions on Weaver’s fashion faux pas.
Styleite wrote, “The front of the dress (when worn correctly, we mean) features a deep cross-over v-neck, with a faux waist-belt detail and an asymmetrical hem, and the back is a plain high neckline with no detailing,” adding that “[o]n the red carpet, it appears that Weaver wore the top part of the dress backwards, but kept the bottom half as is — perhaps she got Alber Elbaz to customize it?”
The Gloss got straight to the point, writing “Sigourney Weaver’s Lanvin looked like a beautifully cut trashbag.”
Red Carpet Fashion Awards quipped, “between the flat back of the gown pressing against her chest and the fact that she didn’t wear a bra she’s giving a whole new meaning to the words SAG Awards.”
Cut Weaver some slack. According to the Daily Mail, Angelina Jolie, Amanda Seyfried and Celine Dion have all tried this trend. It works for some, but not for others as Weaver painfully illustrates.
