As mentioned in the previous article, severe weather is possible this afternoon and evening across the state.
The Jackson Weather Examiner along with the National Weather Service are concerned about the possibility of several strong tornadoes, especially across Central and Southern Mississippi.
The Storm Prediction Center increased the possibility of tornadoes in Central and Southern Mississippi from 5 to 10 percent chance which is considered significant.
The threat of tornadoes will likely increase as the afternoon and evening progresses.
While tornadoes are the main threat this afternoon, high winds are also likely with any severe storms that develop.

Warm moist air was advecting into the state with instability increasing this afternoon. This combined with deep layer shear of 60-70 knots and low level shear of at least 35 knots will lead to the threat of tornadoes and high winds.
A Tornado Watch will likely be issued this afternoon and evening for portions of the state.
