High pressure will move to the east of the area today, and southerly winds will develop this afternoon. Still, temperatures will be quite cold.

Clouds will increase this evening as a cold front approaches from the northwest. The southerly flow ahead of the front will prevent temperatures from falling too much. Some snow showers could develop toward daybreak Saturday.

The cold front will slide across the area Saturday accompanied by snow showers. Some rain could mix with the snow as temperatures just ahead of the front surge into the low to mid 30s. The front will settle to our south Saturday night, and this is where things get interesting.

Moisture and milder air will spread northward toward the area, overriding the front to our south. After a lull in the precipitation during the evening, snow will break out once again overnight and continue through Sunday. A little sleet or freezing rain could mix with the snow across the south.

By late Sunday into Sunday night, developing low pressure will move through the Tennessee Valley, and into the Mid Atlantic states on Monday. Snow will continue Sunday night and Monday with heavy snow possible, especially across the south. The exact track of the system will determine the northern extend of the heavier snowfall. Some locations could pick up several inches of snow from this system. Models continue to exhibit significant differences in the evolution, track, and intensity of this system. Stay tuned for updates.
