It’s been almost a year since the Uptown Theater has seen any flicker of light coming from its projection booth. But thanks to SIFF Cinema the Uptown has a new lease on life.
SIFF just announced that they have acquired the historic theater, located in lower Queen Anne, and will start year-round programming at the three screen movie house starting October when they make their transition out of its current location at McCaw hall.
Not only will the venue provide year-round programming, but it will also provide an additional space for filmmakers who may be looking for a venue for a special screening or event.
And, of course, the Uptown will be a hub of activity during the annual Seattle International Film Festival which runs for three weeks during May/June.
At the same time SIFF begins programming at the Uptown they are also moving their permanent offices to Seattle Center which will also house a 100-seat theater for special screenings, workshops and events.
SIFF Cinema will be planning festivies around the re-opening of the Uptown as well as their new digs at the Center which should happen around October 21. Check in at www.siff.net for additional updates.
