This is one of my favorite dark beers from a major American brewery. When I lived in Richmond, VA the one restaurant I'd frequent went out to the brewery to brew a special beer for their restaurant. I wasn't a fan of Sierra Nevada until I tasted that beer and also sample their Porter in the same night. Now I every so often I have to pick up a six pack for old time sakes.
Appearance: It's dark with a nice head and is slightly carbonated.
Aroma: There is a strong scent of coffee and cocoa.
Taste: It's very refreshing and smooth. The flavor is sweet and has a nice coffee finish.
Conclusion: This brew is one of the better Porters out there. The rich coffee flavor is very pleasant. I would choose not to pair this beer with food and save it for an after dinner drink. I recommend this beer for all level of drinkers and would be a great beer for a beginner to get into darker beers. The 5.6% ABV is low for most dark beers, so it allows you to enjoy a few before catching a "buzz."
