Steven Hemphill, the PR Director at Sierra-at-Tahoe, covered what's new at the resort for the 2013-2014 ski season, in an October 3 press release.

Chief among the upgrades is the addition of a new base area facility. According to Hemphill, the resort invested $4.5 million in "...a mecca for gathering and services that improve the overall skier/boarder experience. The new plaza will include 9,000 square feet of indoor space with retail options, a demo center, and new restaurant. Outside, guests will be able to enjoy a large deck area with fire pits, live music, and lounge chairs where guests can watch the action on the mountain, or reminisce about the day’s events." It is a beautiful addition to the resort.

The Burton Star Wars Experience program, already an impressive plus for the young ones, is expanding to include youth from 7 to 12 years old. The program gives children the "...opportunity to learn how to snowboard using terrain-based teaching, iconic Star Wars™ characters, and Burton Learn to Ride technology and techniques."

Young snowboarders get the opportunity to “defeat the dark side” and become Jedi Knights. All this is accomplished by gaining confidence on the slippery white stuff. Learning to snowboard in this one-of-a-kind venue is simply out of this world.

Sierra-at-Tahoe is a member of the Powder Alliance, and their Resort Unlimited passholders get some rather awesome perks. Free skiing would be at the top of the list. Eleven other mountains, including Crested Butte, Snowbasin, Stevens Pass, Timberline, Schweitzer, China Peak, Mountain High, Arizona Snowbowl, Mt. Hood Skibowl, Angel Fire Resort, and Bridger Bowl, are in this group. Imagine skiing, free, Sunday thru Friday, for the 2013-2014 season at one of those resorts. Holiday blackouts do apply.

There's more. Spring concerts will again bring music to the slopes at Sierra. Three select weekends during spring will bring fantastic music to the new base are.

Sierra-at-Tahoe, still keeping it real.
