Capcom announced this morning that Resident Evil 6 will receive the new multiplayer ‘Siege’ mode in March, which will be available to PS3, Xbox 360, and PC owners. This mode will support up to six players total, in teams of three. Gameplay centers around AI units called ‘rookies’, with one team of ‘agents’ trying to protect these units, while other players attempt to destroy them.
Agents will take control of the standard Mercenaries characters, and powerful weaponry can be found within the level to help aid players against the oncoming hordes. Time bonuses return, though they act a bit differently than in standard Mercenaries mode. These bonuses will lower the time remaining on the clock, making it easier for players to keep rookie units alive until the countdown reaches zero.
The opposing team will control various enemy units, seeking to hunt down and destroy the defenseless AI. Instead of additional time bonuses, players on this team can find and release more powerful creatures to attack the agents. This team wins once the rookie units have been destroyed within the allotted time.
Along with this additional game mode, PS3 owners will finally be able to experience the currently Xbox 360 exclusive Survivors, Onslaught, and Predator game modes, which will be downloadable this February for $3.99 each. A PC-exclusive “The Mercenaries: No Mercy” mode was also announced to be coming to Resident Evil 6 around the time that port launches on March 22nd.
