Side Effects (2013): Synopsis and quotes (Video)

Side Effects is the tale of a young woman and her depression and of trying to find the most effective medication for the depression. In the real world, this can be a real challenge. The side effects for most anti-depressants can be ghastly, depending on ones personal chemistry.

As is typical, Emily (Rooney Mara) has a low s*x drive and seems pretty listless, particularly when she is hospitalized. But, there's not telling what pharmaceuticals are being given her at that time.

Emily's side effects are not all that common. If she really had some other form of mental illness, the tale might make sense. But, she doesn't.

Even given the fact that she is taking an experimental drug (Ablixa), sleep-walking and the commitment of murder seem pretty far-fetched.

The vantage point for this story is awry. Granted, the public clearly has a penchant for crime.

Still, we could of had a better story had the focus been completely different.

Dr. Jonathan Banks: She walks in her sleep.

Dr. Jonathan Banks: Why didn't you tell me about the sleep-walking?

Dr. Victoria Siebert: It wasn't about me. It was about Emily.

Dr. Victoria Siebert: You see her for an hour a day, maybe, a couple of times a week.

Emily: I, basically, have no s*x drive.

Martin (to Emily): I understand your frustration.
