The on-going Federal Government shutdown, according to the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, is in a sense a lockout being led by a few, corporate-backed, "Tea Party" Republicans. The State AFL-CIO urges people to call their Representatives and ask them to end this stalemate.
This past week, Labor and it's allies also picked up a small win when legislation that would have allowed communities, etc to opt out of prevailing wage was not brought to a vote. As the State General Assembly is in recess until October 15, there are opportunities to meet and contact State Representatives and Senators. Voting for the Pennsylvania "Hall of Shame", designed to bring attention to anti-worker members of the General Assembly is close, and has been extended another week. The nominees can be found here.
