It's hard to know what to look at first when you walk in to Shucker's Crab House & Oyster Bar in the Enderis Park neighborhood.
The huge Hawaiian/Easter Island-like stone head? The South Seas decor? The signs with humorous sayings scattered around the walls? The tank of live eels? The wall o' fame - pictures of the owner with many famous celebrities?
Sitting down, the bottle of Sriracha on the table bodes well. The decor might be fun, but the food is taken seriously.
The menu itself is beautifully done, and it's hard to choose because everything sounds great. There are Southeast Asian dishes, Chinese, Sushi, Hawaiian, Korean, Polynesian....Go with a large group, in order to sample a bit of everything.
Start with Oysters, of course - a dozen on the half. Then try the Spicy Pickled Jellyfish, which was fantastic and easily a favorite worth going back for. The texture, for some, might be off-putting, but once you get past that, the taste is fresh from the sea, with a nice heat.
The Salt & Garlic Pepper Calamari was another winner, with the addition of garlic to the usual salt & pepper being an additional welcome kick.
Smoked Eel is prepared Polynesian style, in a wood smoker, and comes with Polynesian Coleslaw. It was interesting. If you like smoked Eel in sushi restaurants, you'll enjoy it here.
The Kimchee that came as a side dish to some entrees was nice and spicy, and the sweet potato fries were excellent. The side of veggie fried rice was fine.
Bulgogi was tender, and came with grilled Pineapple, which was a nice touch and added a sweetness to the dish.
The only disappointment was the Coconut Cheesecake, and that was, perhaps, because it seemed a little bland and boring after the array of foods beforehand.
Service can be a bit slow, but the food is worth the wait. Go when you have the time to sit for an hour or so and really enjoy your way through the menu.
