It’s Pancake Day in the United Kingdom. My daughter sent an email this morning from London reminding me even though I am on a gluten-free diet. She said I could eat buckwheat pancakes because they are highly nutritious. I don’t have a recipe for quinoa pancakes and I am not sure they would taste very good anyway.
This special day is to inaugurate the fattening up before Ash Wednesday. As with many such celebrations it is of religious heritage. Since Lent is only a week away, people loaded up on pancakes so they would have something extra to give up during their fasting.
Sugar, flour, fat, and eggs equal diabetes; don’t forget to add the Maple syrup or corn starch based sugar sweetened fake syrup. Call me a spoil sport, I am on a diet.
Around the world – Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Germany and even in the USA, it’s Shrove Tuesday. Oh, by the way, it is St. Valentine ’s Day too. You can load up on candy.
Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Shrove Day too!
I am headed to IHOP for breakfast.
