Shreveport and Longview Harley Owner's Group take on Independence Bowl, with slideshow

The weather was blustery for most of the day, but the sun finally came out and warmed things to the upper 40's.  But, weather couldn't deter the Shreveport and Longview Harley Owner's Groups from joining together for their third annual Independence Bowl Tailgate Party.  Around 9 am, a few vehicles made their way to the State Fairgrounds, and began setting up.  Keith McClung, Shreveport H.O.G. said, "looks like a party in the making".  And, he was right.  By game time, every tailgate spot was full, throngs of people were wondering the area, drinking and cooking and just having a good old-fashioned time at the sold out event.  I overheard one person say to another "What time is the game?", and the reply was "What game?  Is there a game?  I'm here for the party."  But there were plenty of people there for the game.  One woman that I met, Samantha, an A&M Alumni came from San Antonio with her friend.  She saw the large Harley grill and walked up to us in amazement.  "Your not posers, are you?", she said.  She went on to explain her fascination with Harleys and asked that we take a picture with her so she could show her boyfriend what real Harley riders look like.  She said he wants a Harley, but he's a "poser".  We should convince him to buy a Harley, she continued.

There were a lot of beverages consumed and a lot of food placed on the grill including boudain, (a cajun sausage), Down Home Sausage (a local favorite), cheeseburgers, hot dogs, steaks, and even grilled donuts.  The groups were already making plans for next year's event.  As the sun went down, it began to get really cold, but that didn't deter the groups.  They found some chopped wood, and built a fire in the parking lot.  And, yes there was a game, complete with a B-52 fly over from the local Barksdale Air Force Base.  The Georgia Bulldogs took down Texas A&M, winning the Independence Bowl 44-20.
