“Whether you’re eight or 80, this is a great show,” said Craig Smith, Managing Partner of the Alhambra. He continued, “This is a funny show, with great characters and memorable songs. If you’ve seen the movie or the play, this is a familiar tale. We’ve got a delightful cast of 20 actors, an incredible set and amazing costumes. I cannot wait to get this summer’s party started.”

About Shrek the Musical: Set in a mythical “once upon a time” sort of land, Shrek the Musical is the story of a hulking green ogre who, after being mocked and feared his entire life by anything that crosses his path, retreats to an ugly green swamp to exist in happy isolation. Suddenly, a gang of homeless fairy-tale characters (Pinocchio, Cinderella, the Three Pigs, among others) raid his sanctuary, saying they’ve been evicted by the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad. So Shrek strikes a deal: I’ll get your homes back, if you give me my home back! But when Shrek and Farquaad meet, the Lord strikes a deal of his own: He’ll give the fairy-tale characters their homes back, if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona. Shrek obliges, yet finds something appealing–something strange and different–about this pretty princess. He likes her. A lot. But why does she always run off when the sun sets? In this perfect family story, the adventure begins at the Alhambra.

“When I first went to the Alhambra this past fall, I fell in love with it. I vowed to get more involved and when they announced Shrek as the summer show, I knew it was my opportunity. This magical and fun story, with its adventure and happy ending felt like a wonderful way to help support the Alhambra and theater in general in our city. I’m quite proud to be part of this production”, said Dr. Aylin Ozdemir, MD (“Dr. O”, as she is known to her patients).
