The Denver Center for the Performing Arts just announced that "Shrek the Musical" is coming to the Temple Buell Theatre this November.
Based on the Oscar nominated movie starring Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy, "Shrek the Musical" opened on Broadway in November of 2008.
Most of the spoken lines are taken directly from the first movie. Many of the songs, however, were written specifically for the Broadway show, except for "Welcome to Duloc" and the Monkey's hit "I'm a Believer," which was featured in the film.
The original Broadway performance, which ran until January of 2010, received mostly positive reviews, and USA Today called it a "triumph of comic imagination with a heart as big and warm as Santa's. It is the most ingeniously wacky, transcendently tasteless Broadway musical since "The Producers," and more family-friendly than that gag-fest."
"Shrek the Musical" runs from November 16th through the 28th. Tickets are on-sale now, and range in price from $25 to $125.
