Showers and thunderstorms possible today, cooler on Thursday

Low pressure will move through the Great Lakes and into Ontario today, dragging a rather strong cold front eastward across the state this afternoon. Clouds will increase this morning with showers developing this afternoon. Instability may increase enough to support a few thunderstorms this afternoon as well.

Winds will also become a concern this afternoon. The milder temperatures will help to mix down the stronger winds aloft creating gusts of 30 to 40 mph. Even higher gusts are possible in any convection that develops.

Rain showers will continue into this evening, then change to snow showers overnight as colder air spreads across the region. It will remain windy with gusts in excess of 35 mph possible.

Thursday will be breezy and cool with mostly cloudy skies expected. A few snow showers are possible, especially during the morning hours. High pressure will build across northern Ohio Thursday afternoon and Thursday night bringing a brief period of fair, dry weather.

A warm front will lift northward across the state on Friday bringing another surge of milder air. It will also bring clouds and the threat of rain showers with it.

Here is the forecast: For today, mainly cloudy and becoming windy with showers likely, and possibly a thunderstorm. Highs will be in the low 50s. Winds S 15-25 mph with higher gusts.

Tonight, rain showers likely this evening, changing to snow showers overnight. Lows will be around 30. Winds W 15-25 mph with higher gusts.

Thursday, mostly cloudy and windy with a chance of snow showers. Highs will be around 40. Winds W 10-20 mph with higher gusts.

Thursday night, mostly cloudy with lows in the mid 20s.

Friday, mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. Highs will be near 50 degrees.

Extended Analysis: The warm front will lift north of the area Friday night. Rain showers will be wide spread across the entire area. A cold front will move southeastward across the region on Saturday.

Scattered rain showers will continue through Saturday as colder air spreads back across the state in the wake of the cold front. As the colder air deepens, showers could mix with or change to snow showers. Temperatures will reach their highs early in the day, then hold steady or slowly fall during the afternoon.

A secondary cold front will move across the state on Sunday bringing the threat of snow showers. It will also turn quite chilly on Sunday with highs struggling to reach freezing.

High pressure will build across the region early next week bringing fair, but chilly weather to the state.

Here is the extended forecast: Friday night, mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. Lows will fall to the mid 30s.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain or snow showers. Highs will be in the low 40s.

Saturday night, mostly cloudy with lows in the low to mid 20s.

Sunday, mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers. Highs will be around 30.

Sunday night, mostly cloudy with lows in the teens.

Monday will be partly sunny with highs in the low to mid 30s.
