A cold front will slide south and east through the region today, triggering scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon.

A strong cold front will track through the region today with showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon and evening, some of which could become strong or severe with gusty winds or small hail, along with very heavy rainfall. The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of central New York and the Mohawk Valley in a Slight Risk for severe weather, which is a 15% probability of damaging winds and a 5% probability of large hail within 25 miles of a point. Thunderstorms will move from northwest to southeast this afternoon and begin to taper off later tonight as the cold front advances east of the region.

High pressure will then build back in to the region on Wednesday with lower humidity levels and slightly cooler air, but it will remain warm. Even warmer air will filter into the region by late week as high pressure slides east and a return southerly flow develops.
