Performance Studies students, alumni, and faculty at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor have been performing as voice-over (VO) and voice on camera (VOC) talent for many years on radio, television, film, and in other mass-media formats. Performance Studies present a showcase of their work each semester that is free and open to the public.
May 2, 3 p.m., the public is warmly invited to Voice-Over Performances at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX. Voice and Diction students from the Dept. of Communication and Media Studies at UMHB will perform voices for animations, children’s stories, poetry, Shakespeare, commercials, public service announcements, and news broadcasts. Further, they will present insights on their uses of techniques and skills for effective voice work for film, television, and more. This performance and training event will take place in Brindley Auditorium, York Hall.
Bailee Pender will perform an excerpt from the voice of Patrick at the Krusty Krab from Spongebob Squarepants and Trey Hazelton with perform the character dialect for the lizard in a brief portion of a Geico commercial. Terryn Kelly will use narrative and character voices in the children's story, Invisible Alligators by Hayes Roberts. Keilani will also present narrative and characters voices in Ladybug Girl by David Somar and Jacky Davis.
Bailey Pender will perform the poem, Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou. Keilani Middleton will deliver the poem, Our Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson. Hayley Ainsworth will present Shakespeare’s Ophelia from Hamlet and Keshia Sauls will perform Shakespeare’s Beatrice from Much Ado about Nothing.
Trey Hazelton and Bronson Shaw will present a scene from Monty Python with a Cockney dialect. Terryn Kelly will perform an excerpt of a voice for a Seven Eleven commercial and Chris Collins will deliver a brief segment of the character voice for an Old Spice commercial.
Finally, Keshia Sauls will present a public service announcement on under-age drinking and Hayley Ainsworth will deliver a lead poisoning PSA. Bronson Shaw will give a news story on the NFL Walkout and Chris Collins will deliver news about a fire.
These students have studied my book Speak Skillfully and Successfully:A Guide to Developing Diction and Voice-Over Excellence (McGraw-Hill, 2005) that I have co-authored with Lainie Frasier.
