How are your New Year's resolutions coming along? Did you resolve to get in shape but you lost your resolve? The Resolution Run offers you a chance to get back on track.
Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in the Resolution Run, a 2-mile walk and run event on Saturday, February 2.
The Resolution Run will start at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg in downtown Lynchburg at 3 p.m.
Online registration is available at the link above with discounted registration fees through Jan. 25.
The Resolution Run is a great starting race for beginning runners since it's only 2 miles long. The event is held in the afternoon to allow the temperature to warm up.
Walkers are also welcome at the Resolution Run, sponsored by the Lynchburg Junior Woman's Club. Timekeeping at the event will be performed by Riverside Runners, located at 2480 Rivermont Avenue.
At last year's Resolution Run, 250 runners and walkers participated, despite a cold rain that lasted through the entire event.
Running offers many benefits, as noted in an article featured on Running.com.
Short-term and long-term benefits of running include raising your good cholesterol, improving your lung function, lowering the risk of many diseases, losing weight, relieving stress, fighting depression and improving your overall physical and mental well-being.
The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg will receive all funds raised from the event. The Boys & Girls Club, located at 1101 Madison Street, offers a safe, positive and fun place for boys and girls in our community to go when school's not in session.
Open during the school year from 2:30-8 p.m., the club serves children and youth ages 6-18. Those ages 13-18 are served in a special teen center. In the summer and when school is closed, the club is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Over 50 programs are offered by the trained staff. In addition, many volunteers and leaders in the community serve as mentors to assist with the PowerHour homework help program which is offered from 5-6 p.m. each day.
Improving your health while helping at-risk youth is a great resolution for the new year. Those who are interested in additional running events will find a calendar of events at the Riverside Runners website above.
