Ever looked in the mirror before a hot date or tried skinny jeans on at the local department store and can't decide whether the look actually works? I think we've all been in this boat, but alas, problem solved. Greensboro-based, Should I Wear This Out? (SIWTO), is your one-stop, premiere fashion advice Web site. What sets this site apart from all the others? It's peer-to-peer counsel - snap a shot, upload it online and wait for Carolina fashionistas or normal people like you and me to tell you whether the look is hot or not.
SIWTO is more immediate and personal, and largely free of the snark or harsh judgments that plague earlier crowd-sourcing sites.
"Go Try It On (another fabulous, peer-advice style site) and SIWTO is for everyday people, including teenagers trying out new looks at the mall, and office workers confused by what to wear," reports the News & Observer. "So far, they seem to be among the only sites of its kind, and both were created by fashion neophytes with no involvement from designer companies or brands."
SIWTO co-founder Chris Vocke, 32, says, "We're not in New York, like the other sites. We want to prove that you don't have to have a million bucks to look good. Fashion is everywhere."
Great message.
Love the idea? Check out other show-and-tell sites like LookBook and I Like My Style that allow users to post new looks and critique other postings, much like contestants on "Project Runway."
Next time you don't know if your outfit is a win or a bust, log on to SIWTO, Go Try It On or Fashism and ask your fellow followers for an honest answer! A more chic you will surely emerge.
