Roughly 1 year ago, there were rumors of the WWE wanting to turn The Miz into a babyface. Many fans and pundits, like myself, thought this wouldn't work because The Miz is a much better heel. Additionally, it's not like the WWE has been creatively on fire over the last few years. However, on the March 4th episode of WWE RAW, the pop that The Miz got after defeating Dolph Ziggler was huge. The WWE and The Miz can thank Ric Flair for this. Not only did he solidify Miz's turn, but he also passed down his famous finisher. According to a March 5th report by ESPN.com, The Miz made the following comments about Flair's blessings to use the figure-four leg lock:
"One of the greatest moments of my life. Growing up watching Ric Flair, wooing to all my friends, and trying to put on the figure-four leglock on my buddies, and then having him come out on Miz TV and not only having a woo-off with him, not only strutting with him, but having him kind of say, hey, go ahead and put on my move that I’ve made famous through the years and won many world titles with. It’s just incredible. I hope to pay tribute to Ric Flair and his greatness every time I put it on."
Flair's greatness is still evident in today's wrestling landscape. Not only do the current wrestlers pay homage to the greatest wrestler of all-time, but Flair showed that his star power can still be used to help out younger wrestlers. The Miz is very fortunate to receive this "torch" by Flair. As I stated, it's what solidified The Miz as a baby face. Something that seemed so bizarre roughly 1 year ago.
However, I think the WWE should keep Flair on TV as Miz's fulltime manager. The duo could really "get over" with the WWE Universe. Additionally, they would make an even better heel duo. Or, in classic Flair fashion, you could have Flair turn on The Miz and join up with another young wrestler like a Cody Rhodes or Damien Sandow. This would further The Miz's position as a face and also boost another wrestler into relevancy. Any way you "Flair chop" it, The Nature Boy is good for WWE TV and for The Miz.
