Over the last few months, the WWE has fully embraced Twitter to the point where they use it as part of their storylines. The popular Sports Entertainment company has become Twitter's biggest fan with Vince McMahon leading the cheerleading. A perfect example of WWE's obsession with Twitter is their latest touting of RAW's success trending on Twitter. On Tuesday December 20th, WWE made the following comments via their official Twitter page:
"WWE #Raw was number 1 on last night's @trendrrtv #socialtv chart for all of cable and broadcast TV! http://trendrr.tv/"
While WWE is spending all of this time focusing on Twitter, the ratings for RAW keep declining as fans are turned off with the on-air product. Over the last month or so, RAW's ratings have declined between hour 1 and hour 2 as well, which is opposite of what the WWE wants as they build up their shows to try and draw the most viewers by the end of hour 2.
With RAW floating around a 3.0 in the ratings and PPV buys down, perhaps the WWE should spend more time focusing on creating a product that brings these numbers up rather than what trends on Twitter. Especially since, what trends on Twitter, doesn't translate into an increase in the ratings.
