Should the Oakland Raiders get rid of defensive tackle Tommy Kelly? After having a bad year in 2012 and getting a hefty salary, the Raiders might look into trading him or simply replacing him.
Steven Slivka of the Yahoo News reported on Friday that the Raider Nation should not give up on Kelly just yet. In his article, he agreed about the defensive tackle having a horrible season in 2012.
Kelly only recorded 1.5 sacks while he made $5 million. This next season, he is due for $11 million. Slivka stated that Kelly is not to blame for the horrible season.
Slivka stated that the whole new defensive scheme made by Reggie McKenzie and Coach Dennis Allen must be blamed, but that failure shouldn't last long.
The article stated that the new scheme was new and that it will surface with a better outcome next year, since the end of the 2012 season looked a little more promising for the Oakland's defense.
Slivka wrote that Oakland's defense only gave up an average of 17 points in the last month of the 2012 season, and that Tommy Kelly was part of that.
The article also stated that DT Kelly has played 10 years straight with the Silver and Black and never got hurt. Kelly also stood up for Lamarr Houston during a brawl with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The article also brought up the fact that Kelly had 14.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception a year before last. That’s not bad!
In the end, the sport’s writer made some good points to keep the 6’, 6” who weighs 325 pounds. The article made a very good point to give Tommy Kelly another chance.
