Should Parents Receive Names of Teachers Who Backed Former Teacher Pedophile?

There is a terror that lies in the back of every parent that now sends their child to school and that is being concerned about the child’s safety. Unfortunately for parents of an 8-year-old in a Rochester, New York elementary school their worst nightmares came true when Matthew LoMaglio; a teacher at the school molested their soon, according to Fox News. Worse yet, his fellow teachers backed him when he before he was sentenced for the horrendous crime.

The child’s parents along with many other parents at the school were outraged that “Twenty-two teachers at an upstate New York public school wrote letters to a judge supporting their sexually abusing colleague who assaulted an 8-year-old boy,” reported Fox News.

It appeared that the welfare and confinement of the abuser was far more important than the rights and security of the child who had his entire innocence torn from him by the heinous acts of the convicted felon. Even more unbelievable was the fact that some of the teachers supporting the former 37-year-old gym teacher wrote their letters of support to the judge on school stationary.

The angered parents demanded the names of the teachers that sent support letters to the judge on behalf of the convicted pedophile and received no satisfaction from Judge. Even though the teacher’s support letters are part of the trial case file, the judge has refused to release the names of the teachers.

The reaction by the judge’s stonewalling has been anger from both the parents as well as from city officials, including the prosecutors on the case. They commented that convicting the sexual predator was made more difficult due to the support letters. LoMaglio was sentenced to four years in prison for second-degree sexual assault against the then 8-year-old child, who is now a teen.

Meanwhile parents and community supporters are circulating a petition in the community to rally support against the teachers as well as the judge on the case. The community resident and parent Karen Bryant who launched the petition told Fox News, It’s upsetting, but more than that, it’s fearful. They [teachers] are anonymous and they are with our children for hours a day, five days a week. That is downright scary.

What is scary is that the teachers are still teaching, and parents are not sure what else is not being said and what teacher behavior is being covered up and not being reported.
