The idea of banning interracial marriages probably doesn’t sit well with most people. But that is exactly what 46% of Republicans in the state of Mississippi would like to see happen.
As we are beginning our climb into the 2012 election, a new poll went beyond politics and asked Republican primary voters what their views on interracial marriage are. To the surprise of some, almost half of them are against interracial marriage.
It is hard to believe that in this day and age, the race issue is still at hand. But is this really just a Republican Party thing? It would be interesting to see the same poll done with Democrats.
It makes me wonder what residents of Milwaukee think about this. While I would like to believe that the majority of us would never stand for the banning of interracial marriages, it is difficult to ignore the obvious boundary lines that divide races in certain areas of the city.
When I think about the many public events that I attend, I have to admit that I don’t see a lot of mixed couples. Is it that I’m just not looking at the time or is it really something that Milwaukee doesn’t embrace?
What do you think? Should interracial marriages be banned?
