According to a March 5 report by Broadway.com, Harry is at the top of the producers' list for the role of Fiyero, a prince who gets turned into the Scarecrow character from "The Wizard of Oz." Fiyero gets romantically involved with Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West. Idina Menzel is probably the most famous star to play Elphaba on Broadway, so it's not surprising that the producers of the "Wicked" movie are considering her younger look-alike for the Elphaba role in the movie. "Glee" actress Lea Michele is reportedly being considered for the part, and it's hard to imagine her turning it down. She and Harry Styles would certainly make a cute couple that would draw big crowds at the box office.
Harry Styles is allegedly wanted for the Fiyero role because the "Wicked" team thinks that he might be the next big thing. "Moviemakers see him as a new Zac Efron and think he would be a perfect casting for a movie musical," a source told The Sun. It wouldn't be the first time a boy band member made the move from singing to starring in movies. 'N Sync star Justin Timberlake landed roles in critically-acclaimed movies like "The Social Network" and "Inside Llewyn Davis" after saying "Bye Bye Bye" to his boy band days, so don't laugh at the idea of a member of One Direction becoming a big movie star.
If Harry needs help preparing for the "Wicked" movie, perhaps fellow pop star Adam Lambert would help him out. Adam once played Fiyero in the L.A. production of "Wicked," and he's praised One Direction's music before. Then again, some Adam Lambert fans might prefer to see the "American Idol" star compete against Harry for the Fiyero movie role. If Lea Michele gets cast as Elphaba, Adam would definitely have an edge – Lea would probably advocate for him since she's already done duets with him on "Glee."
