Should doctor be fired for facebook post about a patient?

Once again facebook lands someone in hot water. This time it's a doctor.

A St. Louis OBGYN still has her job, but has been reprimanded by her bosses, after joking on facebook that she might arrive late for a patient’s delivery because that patient had frequently been late to appointments.

Here's the post from Dr. Amy Dunbar, an OB-GYN at Mercy Hospital:

“So I have a patient who has chosen to either no-show or be late (sometimes hours) for all of her prenatal visits, ultrasounds, and NSTs. She is now 3 hours late for her induction. May I show up late to her delivery?”

A screenshot of her post, as well comments made by other hospital staff members in response, was uploaded to the Mercy Hospital Moms-to-Be page on Facebook. Uh oh! Always be careful about what you put in writing.

Many called for Dr. Dunbar to be fired. Mercy Medical Center has not fired Dr. Dunbar and released this statement:

“Our physician leadership has already called Dr. Dunbar. Her comments were definitely inappropriate. We are also reviewing them to determine if they violated privacy issues, etc. That process requires a more thorough review, but we will determine the appropriate response as quickly as possible. In the meantime, know that our physician organization holds its members to the highest standards and strives to improve our service and clinical care through that process.”

Does this doc deserve to get fired? Or should she stay?
