After 170 police calls in 18 months and the Friday morning shooting leaving 8 wounded, is it time to shut down Spiros for good? The Red River nightclub currently being considered for abatement and is known for being rowdy. There were rumors that Emo's, which is next door, would close its doors during Texas Relays due to the violence potential at Spiros. Is it worth giving them another chance?
Post why or why not in the comments section.

With 18 votes cast (not a lot, obviously), it's 12 for and 6 against. I tend to agree; 173 chances is enough. Time to stop it before someone gets killed.
cant help but notice that only black clubs get shut down (or burned down) in this town. first it was midtown live (when the police said "burn baby burn"), then the shack burned down, then there were the complaints that shut down chesters on 12th st (too rowdy for a residential area, but now theres a white club in the same bldg).and then they shut down a whole mall when theres an event that draws black folks to town.not a very welcoming place...
It's a good point, but I'd think the same if Emo's had 173 police calls, a shooting, and a generally bad reputation. The race issue is a tough one; one that Austin probably doesn't address overly well (see this years reaction to the Texas Relays). However, a violent place is a violent place. Spiros has had plenty of chances in my mind.
Bars/clubs like that need to not be in highly populated areas. If they (rowdy and or criminals) are not going to thier own bars--they will come to ours. Everybody needs a place. I dont think it is about race--numbers are numbers--and thiers are not good. I wouldnt close them per se but encourage them to move or change something to make the venue less violent.
