The Capitol of the United States is on lockdown after shots were fired earlier today. According to Fox News the Capitol is on lockdown after shots were fired within the last hour. The shots are possibly related to a car chase that happened earlier within the city limits.
Market watch says that shots were fired outside of the U.S. Capitol, according to multiple press reports. On her Twitter account Senator Claire McCaskill says they are on lockdown.

Robert Costa who has released several relevant tweets says that “Many members of congress outside, due to votes just ending... No info new info tho, just that we're on lockdown and shots on west front.”
Those outside are urged to take cover police have been dispatched and are on the scene.
Update: Fox News says that the shootings appear to be caused from a car chase that entered the city. The driver after getting out of the car fired six shots. near the Capitol Building.
Update: NJ.com reports that a police officer was injured at the scene of the shooting. The shooter is reported to be female. The police shot and killed the suspect. Reports of a child being in the car have also been reported by multiple news sources.
