The 3rd annual Shorty Awards handed out over three dozen different awards in honor of those who use the power of Twitter and social media to communicate with the world. On Monday night in New York City the awards were given to those who made a significant contribution on every level, including a few celebrities like Neil Patrick Harris and Conan O’Brien.
With millions of Twitter messages and short social communications online, the idea of reading these brief moments in one setting might be daunting. In a special performance by Amanda Palmer, the talented musician brought to the forefront of some of the most bizarre, over the top and definitely undefined thoughts posted on Twitter for a musical number. Playing her ukulele, Palmer gave a spin on those moments online we might not have seen from a musical perspective. From Kanye West to Paris Hilton, from Justin Bieber to Charlie Sheen, the three minute musical had some of the most interesting postings online put together for serious laughs. With an emphasis on how diverse the online world is with short messages, there was a new beat to the 140 characters posted.
The Shorty Awards were held in New York City at the Times Center in Midtown in a ceremony that people call the Oscars of Twitter. The evening gave awards to those folks who use the power of Twitter and social media to share with the world and allowed Amanda Palmer to reflect on a few in a funny way.
