One lawmaker in the UK is under fire right now after suggesting women who wear high heals, and short skirts put themselves at a higher risk of being raped. The short skirts risk rape comment has brought "widespread condemnation" according to a report posted today at the Huffington Post.
The article says "Conservative Party lawmaker Richard Graham, of Gloucester" said in a statement to his local newspaper if women are "blind drunk and wearing those clothes how able are [they] to get away?" His comments have sparked outrage from anti-rape activists, who say Graham's short skirts risk rape comment basically blamed rape victims for having been assaulted.
In a further interview Richard Graham said his comment "in no way intimates ANY excuse for predatory behavior," and also said "risk management is a million miles from saying anything like `she was asking for it.'"
Of course women have to be cautious, but does that excuse his short skirts risk rape comment? Would he change his tune if someone he cared about were a victim?
