With starting power forward Dartaye Ruffin out due to injury and starting point guard Frantz Massenat out most of the first half with foul trouble, the Drexel Dragons (4-8) lost to the Saint Joseph's Hawks, 63-49, on New Years' Eve. Sophomore guard Damion Lee led Drexel with 21 points but he was the only Dragon in double figures.
The Hawks had their way offensively in the second half scoring 40 points on a normally good defensive Drexel team. Drexel shot 31% from the floor in the first half and for the game, only made three out of 15 three-point field goal attempts, all of which were made by Lee.
The Dragons starts off CAA play on January 2nd at Georgia State. With the non-conference schedule out of the way, Drexel can focus winning conference games, getting the number-one seed in the CAA Tournament, and giving themselves the best opportunity to win the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
