Shopping ideas for the animal lover on your gift list

Animal lovers are a special breed of people. We see our pets as our children year round but the holiday season is a favorite for animal lovers everywhere to splurge on their fluffy companions. Know an animal lover? If you do, you are in luck! These animal loving friends and family members could be people on your gift list that are easiest to please. I myself have been given some of the most wonderful gifts over the years, but the ones that stand out the most are the “pet related” gifts. Here are some ideas for gifts that I have received or have been given. Hopefully they will inspire you.

1.Pet ornaments or decorations. Some of the best ornaments I have are definitely animal ornaments that were given as gifts. Many of them hold pictures or look similar to the pets we have but my favorite are two matching paw prints personalized with our dog’s names. They were a gift from a coworker several years ago when our dogs were very young. Now that our dogs are getting older these ornaments are even more special because when they are gone, my husband and I will have my ornaments to remind us of them every Christmas. Our first dogs together.

2.A nice framed picture of a pet. This is a gift I have given to pet lovers many times and it is always well received. It does take some planning though as taking your own picture will make this gift even more special.

3.Make a donation to an animal shelter in their honor. Most shelters will give you a certificate that shows a donation in the honor of whomever you like. You can donate cash, toys, food etc. When my husband and I got married one of our gifts was a donation in our name to the local animal shelter. It was one of our favorite gifts.

4.Books about dogs or cats. There are amazingly well done books about dogs and cats. They come in many varieties but artsy pet books are my favorite. I highly recommend the book  WhyPaint Cats: The Ethics of Feline Aesthetics ...   for animal lovers who are also into art. This book showcases pictures of cats that has been painted with vegetable oil based paints. As if cats were not already beautiful to look at, this book shows that they can be even more incredible with a bit of imagination.
