Shopper's secret: Clip coupons to cut costs without piling up paperwork

Savvy shoppers may certainly save by using coupons, discount cards, and customer loyalty program points. But these options can take a ton of time and organization. How often does a consumer stand in a store and rummage through pockets, purses, sacks, or satchels to find the needed codes or documents?

Yes, there is a much easier way.

Anyone with a smart phone can save coupons and codes for easy retrieval by simply snapping a photo of each offer.

Did a postcard come in the mail, offering a half-off sale at a favorite store? Don’t stash the card. Take a photo of it instead.

What about that pile of coupons in the Sunday newspaper? Set down the scissors. Pick up the phone, and click a picture of each coupon that may actually be useful.

Organizing coupon and savings codes on a smart phone is simple.

Most iPhones, Droids, and similar cellular phones allow users to arrange photo images into their choices of albums. Just create a photo album specifically for shopping offers.

It really is that easy.

During the checkout process in a store, a shopper need only open the relevant image files and hold out the phone for the cashier to scan. Maybe it’s a bar code or a series of numbers. That’s all the checker needs.

Read coupons and offers carefully. This may not work with every discount offer, but it surely cuts down on paperwork, while ensuring those coupons and codes are on-hand when needed.
