ShopAtHome.com says Atlanta is a top city for online coupons

ShopAtHome.com, the largest free coupons and cash back site on the web, today released data about 2011 holiday online shopping trends, including a list of the top 10 cities where residents are saving money through online coupon usage. Let's just say, Atlanta is near the top. ShopAtHome.com analyzed its site traffic data as well as trends within its 40 million member strong community to produce the following findings.

Online coupons are a popular way to save money while shopping for holiday gifts. ShopAtHome.com analyzed online coupon usage during the month of November 2011 among its 40 million members to determine which cities have the largest population of online coupon users. The top 10 cities with the savviest holiday shoppers include:

2. Houston, TX

3. Philadelphia, PA

4. Miami, Fl

5. Las Vegas, NV

6. Orlando, FL

7. Atlanta, GA

8. Phoenix, AZ

ShopAtHome.com analyzed its members' online coupon usage during the month of November 2011 and compared that to the number of online coupons used in November 2010. The year-over-year increase of 105% is dramatic, yet it reflects the fact that shoppers are savvier than ever about how to get the best deals possible. Plus there are more outfits offering online coupons.

Walmart.com is the most popular store for online shopping this holiday season.

ShopAtHome.com reviewed the most popular stores visited by its members during November 2011 to gauge which retailers are the most popular for online shopping so far this season. The top 5 list includes:

1. Walmart.com
2. JCPenney.com
3. Target.com
4. BestBuy.com
5. ToysRUs.com

The most popular Black Friday/Cyber Monday online coupon used this year was Walmart's free shipping offer on electronics purchases over $45.

Shoppers spent more than $81 million by shopping through ShopAtHome.com during the month of November 2011. This represents a 117% year-over-year increase in the amount of money spent through the site.

Despite the many deals offered in November, a recent ShopAtHome.com survey found that the majority of consumers – 79% – say they plan to finalize their holiday shopping in December, but deals should remain.

49% of consumers plan to be done shopping by Free Shipping Day (December 16).

A whopping 30% of consumers say they won't be done until Christmas Eve (December 24).

Some customers say they won't shop online if they have to pay for shipping.

ShopAtHome.com's recent survey found that free shipping is expected by many consumers this year. The site offers a list of all of the free shipping deals offered by thousands of popular merchants. Visit http://www.shopathome.com/free-shipping-coupons.aspx.

"Online coupon usage is exploding in 2011 vs. 2010 due to consumers' demand for an easy way to save," said Marc Braunstein, founder and president of ShopAtHome.com. "Black Friday coupon usage on ShopAtHome.com was 85% higher this year than last and our preliminary Cyber Monday results show year-over-year increases in the triple digits. On average, consumers saved $22 per transaction shopping through ShopAtHome.com and taking advantage of our terrific holiday deals. We expect the savings to continue through December and anticipate Free Shipping Day on December 16 to be another huge day for online shopping."

The survey results cited in this release are from an online survey conducted by ShopAtHome.com of more than 1,000 of the site's members.
