For a very long time after Hurricane Sandy embarked on her destructive path, the historic area of where Fulton Street meets the East River in lower Manhattan near the Financial District was very quiet, having once been a bustling shopping mecca.
As Memorial Day brings the warmth of summer to fruition and fashionistas from all across the nation flock to shop in one of the largest fashion capitals of the world, energy is reviving the very soul of fashion. This is a brand new concept coming forth at Dossier Outpost, a meeting place for independent designers, fashion, art, food and cultural happenings that are all located in one area, the newly revived South Street Seaport.
Beginning tomorrow and running straight through the month of September, Fulton Street between Front and South Streets is transformed into a public hub with a rotating selection of pop-up shops housed in repurposed shipping containers, an art gallery, and a food truck court. A lawn will host film screenings, concerts, and workshops and provide a community space for relaxing, eating, and enjoying the summer.
Hours are 12 - 7 p.m. daily. Outpost Gallery, an exhibition space curated by Skye Parrott, will present Birds of Paradise, a solo exhibit of paintings by Caris Reid, as its inaugural event. The Show will be on view from May 23 - June 9.
Enjoy the outdoors by the water's edge with so much to see, so much to do, so much to eat.
For the month of June expect to see Audrey Louise Reynolds, Ed Varie, Freedom of Animals, Lila Rice, M ary Meyer, Samantha Pleet, Selima Optique, and The Squeeze.
On site are food truck experiences from Coolhaus, Mac Truck, Milk Truck, Moo Shu Grill, Phil's Steaks, Shorty's, Souvlaki GR, Sweet Chili, and Toum.
Each month you can look forward to a variety of merchandise from extremely talented individuals. Whether you are a resident or just passing through, see all that Dossier Outpost has to offer.
