Shootings at Lone Star College’s North Harris Campus Library

KPRC (NBC-2) is reporting that two students were shot and wounded at Lone Star College’s North Harris Campus in northern Houston, Texas, one person is in custody, and a second is the subject of an ongoing manhunt. Two people have been taken to Ben Taub Hospital and two other people were transported to other hospitals (at least one went to Memorial Hermann Hospital).

The campus is located at 2700 West W. W. Thorne Drive. The shootings began at approximately 12:30 p.m.

As a precaution, KPRC and KTRK (ABC-13) are both reporting Aldine Independent School District placed four schools on lockdown: Dunn Elementary, Parker Intermediate, Nimitz 9th grade campus and Nimitz High. Lone Star College officials reported at 2:00 p.m. that the shootings began with a dispute between two people, KPRC is reporting.
After initially placing a shelter-in-place order, college officials ordered the evacuation of the 200-acre campus, KPRC is reporting. Harris County Sherriff’s deputy constables searched vehicles for their suspect as students departed.

The North Harris Campus is a commuter campus. In practice, many students have had difficulty leaving campus because of a backup driving out the exits, KTRK is reporting. The roads have opened up now and students are able to drive off campus at will.

KRPC is reporting that at 2:45 aerial photos indicated a second person was in custody. KTRK reported that SWAT team members arrested the second suspect hiding near pine trees.K

TRK is reporting the shootings occurred near the campus library and three people were injured. A student interviewed on camera on KTRC indicated the library was on lock-down until librarians gave students word they were free to leave the building.
As this is a developing story, reporters in the field are delivering somewhat conflicting details. Print stories that have been posted on television station news Web sites indicate three people were shot while reporters speaking live on the air are saying two people were shot. The Harris County Sherriff’s Office will hold a press conference at 4:00 p.m.
