Just days after a shooting at a mall in Kenya captured national headlines, a second shooting near a local more captured more attention, albeit attention among local residents of Long Island.
Late last week, a former employee of a Garden City company opened fire on his former workplace and co-workers, killing one and injuring another. The suspected gunman was apparently motivated by a business deal that had gone badly.
He then fled the scene, leaving behind a nervous community and a tragic scene. The business is located near the busy Roosevelt Field Mall, and the aftermath of the shooting closed traffic to the area for several hours.
In the days since the shooting, the man still remains on the loose, although his car has been located by authorities. The suspected gunman, who was identified by media outlets as Sang Ho Kim, has not been located, and the search continues on.
Although the search continues, and this may not be over, this was a story which deeply effected the Long Island community. Normally, we do not ever think cases like this can happen- until they happen on our own doorstep.
