23ABC is reporting a shooting at Taft High School that occurred this morning
Initial reports indicate that two people were shot at around 9 a.m. at Taft High School, and the shooter was taken into custody around 9:20 this morning. A shotgun was recovered at the scene.
Taft High School is located in the city of Taft, just west of Bakersfield, Calif.
The Kern County Fire Department initially reported that one victim had refused treatment at the scene, and a second victim was airlifted to Kern County Medical Center.
The shooting took place in the Science Building at the school.
It has now been confirmed that one teacher and one student were injured. The student was flown to a hospital in Bakersfield, and the teacher refused treatment.There was no immediate word on the victim's condition.
23ABC news reported receiving a number of calls from people hiding inside closets within school. The station also reports that police are currently sweeping the school, but consider the situation stable.
City manager's assistant Debra Elliott says the shooting was reported shortly after 9 a.m. She did not immediately provide further details.
The county has recently been debating gun control after the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Conn.
Parents were directed to pick up their children at the football field.
