The Denver Post reported today that two people were injured and the gunman dead at Arapahoe High School, in Centennial, south of Denver. The gunman started shooting at 12:30 p.m. while students fled.
Details of the shooting are flooding in real time at the Denver Post blog. The Arapahoe County sheriff's office is describing the shooter's death as self-inflicted.
The students were told to hide in the corners of the room and were eventually escorted away from the school. The local church, Shepherd of the Hill, was used to house students.
One student admitted: "It's scary it's happening so close to me."
Reporter Lindsey Sablan's tweet specified a possible reason for the shooter's actions: "Suspect dead fm self inflicted gunshot wound. He came in looking for specific teacher. Shot two students. #BREAKING"
According to her later report, the shooter went after a specific teacher to confront. Then another student approached the suspect only to get shot.
Providentially, the shooter was "down within 14mins of the first call," according to Sablan's tweet on the Denver Post blog.
The reasons for the shooting are still under investigation.
