A gunman opened fire at the Naval Sea Systems Headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Monday morning. Capital Police are calling the scene an active shooter situation. At least 10 people, including 2 law enforcement officers were wounded in the shooting.
U.S. Navy officials confirmed via twitter that multiple people were injured in the Navy yard shooting, including one police officer. The gunman is believed to be barricaded inside the Navy yard.
According to the FAA website, Reagan International Airport has ground flights as a result of Monday morning's ongoing active shooter situation.
U.S. Capitol Police have stepped up security at the Capitol, and several schools in the area have been placed on lockdown.
The identity of the gunman is unknown. Police have not issued a description of the gunman. However, witnesses who managed to escape described the gunman as a bald black male, at least 6 ft. tall, with a medium complexion, dressed in all black.
Due to the tight security at the Navy facility, there is early speculation that the shooter may be an insider.
The FBI has joined the investigation into the shooting at the Navy yard.
