If your in the East Village and are looking for a super cozy bar, friendly, fast bartenders and a great place to relax with friends, look no further than Shoolbred's, a highlander inspired bar complete with fireplace and leather armchairs.
Shoolbred's was designed by William Ivey Long, a 5-time Tony Award winning costume designer, who was tasked with creating a bar that resembled the pubs dotting the hills of Scotland. This bar's interior is actually the interior of a historic Massachusetts church that was salvaged and trucked to New York City and reassembled as a bar. There are gorgeous stained glass windows, dark woods, brocade inspired wallpaper and vintage portraits of Scottish crests and historical figures.
The wings here are surprisingly good. Another great option are the Chips N' Vinegar (french fries served with malt vinegar and white cheddar), they're crispy and bursting with flavor. While the menu isn't extensive, you really can't go wrong with anything on the list. There are even healthier options like the Pear, Gorgonzola & Walnut Salad for the diet conscious.
Great winter inspired drinks
What better way to escape the frigid chill in the air than with a Hot Toddy, a signature winter cocktail made with Glen Grant Scotch, Green Tea, honey, cinnamon and fresh orange. Another great choice is the Mulled Cider featuring Apple Jack Brandy, apple cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and fresh orange.
There are many great specialty cocktails to choose from as well as a nice selection of draft and bottled beers. Don't miss the Buy One, Get Happy Hour for All Beers & Well Drinks, and try Crabbie's Ginger Beer.
So if you're looking for an intimate, dim-lit spot to relax with friends and enjoy quality cocktails and craft beers at affordable prices, Shoolbred's is your destination.
