Photographer, Shoccara Marcus, of Shocphoto, embraces her first solo exhibit in Atlanta, directed by local choreographer Dawn Axam. The exhibit will feature images from her upcoming book, Thirteen Moments. Thirteen Moments displays the complexities and intricacies that we face in relationships of love, trust and desire. The choices that we make within our relationships not only put us in a place to embrace, but also challenge who we are as individuals. “My focus is to share my craft through these real, life-altering moments that we all face in our relationships and to bring an awareness to Atlanta and the art that exists here,” says Marcus.
Thirteen Moments isn’t the first time that Marcus and Axam have collaborated together. Their history goes back to Marcus in high school and Axam was her dance teacher. Last year, these two paired together to produce two dance calendars: “Dancing Through Our Soles and Dancing Through my Journey.”
When Marcus’ and Axam’s love of dance collides, many thrilling projects are formed. Axam’s new dance company, Axam Dance Theatre Experience will have its inaugural performance April 28, 2013 at 4pm. Marcus is also a member of the new dance company.
Shoccara Marcus' exhibit can be viewed at the Southwest Art Center Performance Theater and Gallery from April 18, 2013 until April 28, 2013. The exhibition will lead up to the release of a photography book entitled “Thirteen Moments” and the premiere performance show of Axam Dance Theatre Experience on April 28, 2013, at 4pm.
