President Barack Obama
A two week motorcycle trip is a dream for some riders, but for Brammo lead designer, Brian Wismann and Crispin, Dave Shiff, it is more than a dream. The two have been on the road since last Monday and are on a quest to meet the President of the United States, present him with a Brammo Enertia electric motorcycle, and get a little face time to pitch their solution to the transportation energy crisis. Their route from Detroit, MI to the White House mirrors that of the CEOs who took the same route, going to Washington to ask for a bailout. It is symbolic, but the Brammo employees are not asking for a bailout, just time with the "man in charge" to offer a solution. They don't actually have a meeting scheduled with President Obama, but not for a lack of trying. They've been using social networks including Twitter to get the help of the American public, asking if anyone knows Obama, or if anyone knows anyone who knows Obama, please contact them and help them complete their mission. But, time is running out; on their web site, Shocking Barack, one can follow them via GPS tracking and can easily see that they are closing in on the capital city. They've talked to Mayors and even Senators along the way, but still haven't had any luck.
Ironically, today, the President will be at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston to talk about clean energy. In an email released yesterday, MIT announced "It is my great pleasure to announce that on Friday, October 23, President Barack Obama will be visiting MIT, where he will deliver an address in Kresge Auditorium on clean energy after meeting some of the MIT faculty and students whose work centers on energy. The President will be joined by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
President Obama’s decision to speak about energy from our campus is a high honor — and one that can truly be shared by the entire MIT community. Students, faculty and staff at the Institute are helping to frame the national policy debate on energy, push the frontiers of energy research, and revitalize energy education. With our flagship energy initiative — MITEI — MIT is bringing real-world solutions to the most challenging problems in energy.Brammofan, who has been keeping a blog of the entire expedition asks "Are there any Brammo Fans, or ShockingBarack Fans, or EV fans who would be willing to carry some signs promoting ShockingBarack? Let me know in the comments or send me an email at: brammofan at brammofan dot com." This might be just the thing to get the President's attention.
In response, Brammofan, who has been following the two riders asked readers "are there any Brammo Fans, or ShockingBarack Fans, or EV fans who would be willing to carry some signs promoting ShockingBarack? Let me know in the comments or send me an email at: brammofan at brammofan dot com." This could be an opportunity to get the word out to the President, but I have a feeling he's already been following this story, and am confident he will step forward and meet with the two. And, it looks like it would be difficult to get admission to the event, with attendance limited and tickets favoring the students.
As the days go by, the number of people following the "Shocking Barack" team has grown, and even one comment by Tom Bachur, Baltimore Motorcycle Travel Examiner on this series stated ".. I am enjoying this series and look forward to the next article, and to the outcome. I feel like I'm reading a really good adventure novel that I don't want to put down!
