Shocking allegations against New York Animal Care & Control

Manhattan, Ny- It has been said that New York Animal Care & Control has had a less than favorable reputation when it comes to saving lives, but this most recent allegation puts them in the unfathomable category.

On March 24, Ginger, a one year old, female Lab mix was admitted into NYACC’s Manhattan branch. It was clear just from looking at her that she was expecting.

Ginger was taken in and spayed. The order was clearly stated in her intake documents, "Recommend OVH before parturition.” For those who are unclear, OVH is the acronym for spay and parturition is the act of giving birth.  After her spay, the puppies were then aborted, which was also apparent from her published file, “One day post op abort near full term puppies.”

An un-named source and advocate for animals states,

Everyone needs to understand this: aborting puppies this late in Ginger's pregnancy means that each of these eight puppies was old enough to survive on its own.  That means the ACC cut Ginger open, took out each of the eight squirming puppies, one by one, and gave each puppy the same injection that they use to kill grown dogs every other day of the year. Those are eight lives who would have had rescue groups fighting to take them. Instead, they are eight forgotten bodies that the ACC will not include in its daily tally of killed dogs.”

If the allegations above are in fact true, it is clear that NYACC is not putting the best interest of their animals in the forefront, and something desperately needs to be done.  Contacting the employees of NYACC will not help these defenseless animals, though.  Change needs to come through petitions, elected officials and ACC board members.

If you are interested in adopting Ginger, please contact New York Animal Care & Control in Manhattan (212)-722-4939. Hit 0 for an operator, do not leave a message. You may need to hit 0 a few times, as the employees are busy tending to the animals throughout the day.

Ginger- A891885 “A Volunteer Writes Ginger is a 1 yo female labrador Retriever mix. She weights 56b lbs and might be pregnant. Ginger was found in the lobby of an apartment building. She might have taken refuge from the rain and cold as she was  all wet and dirty when she arrived at the shelter on 3/24/2011.. Ginger is very shy, walking with her tail between the legs but she clearly takes comfort in her caretaker's presence. She is a good walker, though, eliminating on the street and minding her own business with all other dogs met, small and big, males or females. She is mainly concerned about herself and focuses on her careatker. Ginger is very beautiful, her coat is cream in color, her hair long and her eyes soft. Her belly is round and her mammary glands are slightly swollen. She could be pregnant or have given birth not that long ago. Ginger is an affectionate type of dog. Once she bonded with her caretaker, she sits with her , very close and gived little kisses and licks on her hand. Ginger is a beautiful and delicate looking female. She is a sweetheart too. She deserves a good family who will treat her this time like the wonderful pet she is. Ginger is at the Manhattan shelter, waiting, hopeful…”

Again, NYACC employees do not have a say in how this organization operates. Please do not call and harass them. Direct all concerns to New York elected officials and the ACC board members. If you are interested in signing the petition to push for changes at the NYACC, please click the blue petition link above.
