Shoal Creek Golf Club is the backdrop for the Kansas Senior Series

The Kansas Senior Series sponsored by the Kansas Golf Association opened play Monday morning May 19 at the Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kanas City, Mo. Shoal Creek is an 18-hole championship course with a rating of 73.9 and a slope of 13.6.

In the Overall Category gross scoring Doug Kaup of Phillipsburg, Kan. finished in first place at one over par 72. Michael Carey of Shawnee Mission, Kan. and Mark Worthey of Kansas City, Mo. tied for second at three over par. In net scoring Ron Elliott finished with an adjusted score of seven under par for first place. Ron Kaser of Osborne, Kan. took second at two under par and adjusted scores of one under par left Worthey and Jim Deines of Hill City, Kan. in a tie for third.

Worthey finished in first place in the 50 to 54 Age Group gross scoring at the three over par. At 12 over par Jerry Kruger of Topeka, Kan. finished in second and one shot back was Mark Kays of Independence, Kan. at 13 over par 84. Worthey finished in first place in net scoring with the one under par. Kurger remained in second at four over par and Kays stayed in third with an adjusted score of six over par.

Andy Smith of Kansas City, Mo. finished in first place in the 55 to 59 Age Group gross scoring with a four over par 75. Lee’s Summit, Mo. resident Mike Naegele finished in second at nine over par and Jeff Rader of Glen Elder, Kan. finished in third at 13 over par. Rader moved to first in net scoring with a two over par 73 tieing Naegele. Third place resulted in a three way tie at four over par between Andy Smith of Kansas City, Mo., Dan Heideman of Wamego, Kan. and Topeka, Kan. native Eddie Rodgers.

The 60 to 64 Age Group gross scoring ended with Kaup in first place at one over par. Greg McLeod of Overland Park, Kan. finished in second at eight over par, while Gary Richter also of Overland Park finished in third with 10 over par 81. Second place finisher McLeod moved to a three way tie for first in net scoring with Kaup and Leroy Linnebur of Satanta, Kan.

Carey finished in first place of the 65 to 69 Age Group gross scoring with a three over par 74. Doug Mahnke of Overland Park, Kan. finished at six over par to take second place. Roger Gemeinhardt of Olathe, Kan. posted an eight over par for third. Carey and Mahnke finished in a tie for first at even par in net scoring. Third place resulted in a three way tie between Dave Steeples of Hays, Kan., Frank Stucky of Newton, Kan. and Ron Brewer of Leawood, Kan. at two over par.

Five over par was enough to give Bill McDonald of Topeka, Kan. a first place finish in the 70 and Over Age Group gross scoring. Dick Landon of Olathe, Kan. finished one shot back for second and third went to Ron Elliott of Olathe, Kan. at 11 over par 82. Elliott moved to first place at seven under par 64 in net scoring. Ron Kaser of Osborne, Kan. took second with an adjusted score of two under par and Jim Deines of Hill City, Kan. finished in third at one under par.
