It should come as no surprise that there are nude photos of actresses from the HBO TV series “Girls” on the web. After all, the show loves trying to shock viewers with its raw portrayal of sex and nudity. However, according to a March 20 report by E! Online, Shiri Appleby has revealed a little more to the world than she ever intended to because of a leaked full-frontal photo.
Shiri recently shocked “Girls” fans by starring in a scene that almost featured a money shot. No genitals were shown, but Shiri used a shirt to wipe a semen-like substance off of her bare chest.
A lot of people might think that an actress who has done nude scenes would be fine with having a nude photo leaked, but Shiri Appleby has plenty of reasons to be upset. Someone violated her privacy by sharing the photo on the web, whether it was a hacker or whoever she sent them to. It’s likely she didn’t consent to the leak, even though some fans think that it was just a publicity stunt. Sexting is a subject that has already been covered on “Girls,” so why use a tired old trick to promote the show? Celebrity sexting certainly isn’t shocking anymore with leaked nudes of Scarlett Johansson, Kat Dennings, Ashley Greene, and Rihanna floating around on the web.
Shiri might also be upset because her nude photo shows more than what she revealed on "Girls" since it’s a full-frontal shot. And even if a woman has shown off most of her body or flashed a bit of flesh multiple times, it’s still not easy to share something so personal with rest of the world. Take Vanessa Hudgens, for example -- the world has seen most of the former Disney star because of her leaked nude photos, but she was still squeamish about showing her breasts in “Spring Breakers.”
If there’s a lesson to be learned from all of this, it’s that sexting while being a celebrity is a very bad idea, and hopefully one day stars will stop providing prizes for enterprising hackers.
